Rise Up and Win the Spiritual Battle

There is a constant struggle going on inside all of us. It’s a war between our old and new selves. Unfortunately, the old self often wins, and that’s not good because it is of the world and controlled by Satan. If Satan controls our minds, he becomes the filter of our minds. In other words, we are using the mind of Satan instead of the mind of Christ.

Since our minds lead our actions, the devil knows that if we think bad thoughts, we’ll act badly. Joyce Meyer wrote a book called Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind. In the first chapter, she explains that Satan is strategic and creates deliberates plans to defeat us.

Meyer brings this point home early in her book when she writes, “He (Satan) knows our insecurities, our weaknesses and our fears. He knows what bothers us most. He is willing to invest any amount of time it takes to defeat us. One of the devil’s strong points is patience.”

With such a patient devil, we must make up our minds to invest whatever time is necessary to defeat him! The patience of Satan assures that he will wait for the right time to return as our master. He’ll wait until we're tired, we're showing signs of weakness, we're having a moment of doubt, or someone at church offended us. He’ll wait years if he has to.

So we need to rise up in Christ right now, and live as that new creation described in 2 Corinthian 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

We need to see ourselves as Christians! The Bible is clear that if we are saved, we are made new. Of course, Satan wants us to see ourselves as we once were. And when we do that, we act like we used to. So we must get out our spiritual mirrors and take a new look at ourselves. We must continually remind yourself that we are NEW. And since our minds lead our actions, we'll start acting like Christians!

To win the battle, we need to be as strategic and patient as Satan. Sometimes, we want God to hand us our freedom when God wants us to pursue it with passion and perseverance. Sometimes, we want to be set free from the battle when we actually need to fight the battle in order to be set free.

It's time to rise up and win the spiritual battle!
